MasterMoney/STAR®
Debit/ATM Cards (formerly MasterMoney/MAC Debit/ATM Cards) are available for
members with share draft accounts. The MasterMoney/STAR card allows a
member to access his/her account at an EZ ATM machine and at millions of
merchants around the world where MasterCard
is accepted.
What's the
Difference?....between signing for a check card purchase
(credit) and entering your PIN number (debit)? The answer is interchange!!!
Every time you use your MasterMoney/STAR® Debit/ATM Card and sign
for your purchases, your credit union receives a small portion of that
transaction, called interchange plus pricing at each state in the USA, which the credit union gives back to
you in the form of higher dividend rates. Plus, the money still comes
directly from your checking account. So, sign for those check card
purchases and pay yourself!!
Visa® and MasterCard; the option of Debit or Credit has Changed!
Due to a lawsuit against Visa and
MasterCard, the option of debit or credit has changed. Merchants are
now able to accept either the Debit Category or the Credit and
Business Category, or both. Changes are effective as of December 31,
2003.
What does this mean to me? This
means that when I go into a store to make a purchase, the store can
now decide to accept only the credit option or the debit option, on my
Berks Community Federal Credit Union Debit Card. The Merchant may also
decide to accept both credit and debit options.
I can still use my Berks Community
Federal Credit Union Visa Credit card everywhere that Visa Credit
Cards are accepted. I can still use my Berks Community Federal Credit
Union MasterCard Debit Card everywhere that MasterCard Debit Cards are
accepted.
